What we believe

Plainly, and without apology.

This is the doctrinal statement of Community Baptist Church. It is not a summary written for a website — it is what we actually hold, and what you will hear preached from the pulpit.

How to know ChristPlan a Visit

A note on the Bible. We preach and teach from the King James Version, and we hold the Scriptures to be verbally inspired, inerrant, and the final authority for faith and practice.

    The Holy Scriptures

    We believe the Bible is the verbally inspired Word of God; the final authority for faith, inspiration, and practice; inerrant, infallible, and God-breathed. We use the King James Version.

  2. 02

    The Godhead

    We believe in one triune God, eternally existing in three beings — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — co-eternal in being, co-identical in nature, and co-equal in power and glory.

    The Person and Work of Christ

    We believe Jesus Christ, God's eternal Son, became man without ceasing to be God, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, in order to reveal God and redeem mankind. Redemption came through His sacrificial death and His literal, physical resurrection.

    The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit

    We believe the Holy Spirit convicts the world, regenerates believers, baptizes them into the body of Christ, and indwells and seals them. He guides believers into truth, and believers should yield to His direction.

    The Total Depravity of Man

    We believe man was created in the image of God but fell in Adam's sin, inherited a sinful nature, became alienated from God, and is utterly unable to remedy that condition on his own.

    The Freeness of Salvation

    We believe salvation is the free gift of God, brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

    The Eternal Security and Assurance of Believers

    We believe all the redeemed are kept by God's power and are thus secure in Christ forever.

    The Two Natures of the Believer

    We believe every saved person possesses two natures, with provision made for victory of the new nature over the old through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit.

    Separation

    We believe all the saved should live in such a manner so as not to bring reproach upon their Savior and Lord, maintaining separation from apostasy and from worldly practices.

    The Mission of the Saved

    We believe it is the obligation of the saved to witness by life and by word to the truths of the Gospel to all mankind.

    The Ministry and Scriptural Gifts

    We believe God sovereignly bestows spiritual gifts, and that evangelists, pastors, and teachers are sufficient for the perfecting of the saints today. Speaking in tongues and sign miracles ceased as the New Testament Scriptures were completed.

    The Church

    We believe the church, the body and espoused bride of Christ, is a spiritual organism made up of all born-again persons of the present age.

    Dispensationalism

    We believe in the dispensational interpretation of Scripture, while rejecting hyper-dispensationalism, which opposes either the Lord's Table or water baptism.

    The Personality of Satan

    We believe Satan is a person, the author of sin, the enemy of God and man, and destined to eternal punishment in the lake of fire.

    The Second Advent of Christ

    We believe in the personal, imminent, pre-tribulational, and pre-millennial return of Christ for His own, and His subsequent return to earth to establish His millennial kingdom.

    The Eternal State

    We believe in the bodily resurrection of all — the saved to eternal life, the unsaved to judgment and everlasting punishment. The souls of the redeemed are, at death, absent from the body and present with the Lord in conscious awareness.

    The Lord's Supper

    We believe the Lord's Supper is the commemoration of His death and coming again, and that it should always be preceded by solemn self-examination.

  18. 18

    Baptism

    We believe in water baptism by immersion for the believer, as the outward evidence of having received Jesus Christ as Savior. Baptism adds nothing to salvation.
